Our History

Founded in 1977 by Pastor Robert Villani, the people of St. Peter's Lutheran Church have demonstrated a remarkable testimony in witness to the power of our living Lord, Jesus Christ. In slightly more than a years time the property was purchased and the main sanctuary, offices and fellowship hall were constructed in 1978. In 2003, we advanced a challenge to build an educational wing to accommodate the number of children attending Sunday School. Again, we as the church saw the need and embraced the vision to minister more effectively to our young people.

Throughout history we have retained the highest value on mission and outreach.  Such a priority continues in the major forms of support to our New England Synod of the Evangelical Church In America along with contributions to local organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Disaster Relief through the ELCA, Kate's Kitchen, The Salvation Army, Diabetes and Autism programs, The Food Bank of Western Mass, The Red Cross, The Rescue Mission of Springfield and a host of other charities and concerns that offer a service or relief to the needy of the Pioneer Valley.

On a given Sunday you may find our parking lot filled and cars lined on both sides of the street along Jarvis Avenue.  We offer two worship opportunities each week; on Thursday evenings at 7:00 PM and on Sundays at 9:30 AM.  Sunday School begins at 9:15 AM  for grades preK - 7.  Congregational dinners, an annual Christmas Gingerbread Fair, a congregational picnic and spring tag sale are a few highlights of fellowship opportunities.  Youth meetings of the SPY's (St. Peter's Youth) are open to all youth in grades 7 - 12.  We offer a two year Confirmation Program and a First Communion class, both taught by our pastor.

We welcome you to open our doors and be part of an energetic and committed congregation engaged in worship, outreach, education and service to our Lord.  Come join us.

Our 40th Anniversary:

We celebrated our 40th anniversary in 2017 with a dinner and entertainment. Our current pastor at the time, Pastor Phil Gustafson, and previous pastors, Pastor Villani and Pastor Larson were present in addition to the presiding Bishop, Jim Hazelwood. The church also celebrated with a burning of our mortgage at the Sunday service.
